A cleaner and healthier atmosphere is a concern of all nations around the world. No one can deny that it is, at least, a worthwhile goal. In the case of the United States, however, the White House has already acknowledged that this issue will become progressively more difficult to counteract.
There are several reasons for this. The first is industrial pollution; the second is greenhouse gas emissions; and the third is the increase in traffic, which increases air pollution in large cities.
That’s why more and more people are becoming aware of this problem as it affects their health. Bad air quality not only makes you sick, but it also contributes to climate change by trapping heat near the ground and slowing down the ability of crops to grow. So what can be done? Well, there are currently a number of smart devices on the market that can help you measure your local air quality and stay informed about what’s going on in your neighborhood.
What are these devices? Well, I’m sure you’ve heard of smart speakers like Alexa or Google Assistant. These emerging devices, which we also call voice assistants, are capable of doing much more than just playing music or setting timers on your stove. They can also give you information on any topic by just asking a question.
In this case, they can be used to obtain information about your local air quality. For example, if you ask your Alexa device “What is the pollution level in San Francisco?” it will respond with an answer that gives you everything you need to know about your air quality situation.
Are there any other options?
Yes! Along with smart speakers, there are currently a few air quality monitoring devices on the market that provide this service as well.
But it does not always make sense to buy a new device when you already have one or two speakers at home. That’s why it would be great if we could use one of these devices with an API in order to get more information at our convenience and without buying another hardware.
